PARIS Software is a Capital Idea for Hamburg
Monday, 14 September 2009 00:00

Hutchison Ports (UK) Limited are celebrating a five-year contract with Hamburg Sud for use of the PARIS transport optimisation software.

After successfully demonstrating real cost savings through a data test, PARIS has now been successfully rolled out to manage all of Hamburg-Sud's UK container moves.

PARIS is the most advanced, real-time, inland container movement planning software tool available on the market today. Developed by Hutchison Ports, PARIS – the industry leader – will automatically match import loads with exports whilst optimising the usage of rail, barge and feeder services to instantly produce the overall least cost transport plan for an organisation, saving time, cost and resources.

David Gledhill, Chief Executive Officer of Hutchison Ports (UK) Ltd commented:
“The PARIS system is remarkable and unique, increasing the multi-modal movements of a container, and reducing “empty” road miles. Indeed, in the course of a year, over 1,000,000 road miles can be saved, significantly reducing the company’s carbon footprint.”

A spokesperson from Hamburg Sud said:
“The PARIS system delivers real time planning and optimisation across all of our transport moves enabling us to maximise vehicle use and reduce the empty miles run. The system is user friendly and allows our operators time to fine tune the transport plan after taking care of the initial routing and allocation.”

The PARIS system is used by some of the world’s leading container shipping lines, planning over half a million individual transport orders with several hundred users in Europe. The system works by matching transport orders with the best haulier/vehicle allocation based on cost, facilitating last-moment and time-consuming amendments that would otherwise be costly and disrupt the most detailed of plans.
